Fireworks show to close out day of giving

| July 14, 2023

ZOAR (WJER) (July 14, 2023) – Fireworks will light up the sky over Route 212 between Zoar and Bolivar Saturday night to close out the second installment of the communitywide charitable initiative called Sparks of Giving.

Businesses throughout the region are hosting fundraisers for their favorite causes leading up to the main event that night at 10. It’s a tradition Zoarview Investments owners Kyle and Samantha Quillen started a year ago when they decided to turn the massive fireworks display their family has been putting on each summer for decades into a day of giving.

“It’s really about a night of just everybody getting out and just being neighborly and being part of the community,” Kyle told WJER News. “A lot of businesses are contributing. A lot of private individuals are contributing to the overarching event, and we’re excited about what we think this year is going to bring as far as fundraising.”

Activities and fundraisers will also be taking place at the three primary viewing areas for the fireworks: Zoar Golf Course, Holy Trinity Church, and Zoarview Field

“Zoomy Zoo’s petting zoo is gonna be there. Zach Pirillo is gonna come out and do a band. We’ll have a couple of food trucks. Lockport is bringing in a beer garden, and the Tusky Valley Boosters are handling all of the parking and all of the donations from a parking perspective, and the proceeds there go to the Tusky Valley Booster Club.”

Last year, Sparks of Giving participants raised around $35,000 for charities including the Tusky Valley school district’s Affordable Christmas program and the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.

“My hope would be to double that this year, and we think we’ve got some pretty cool stuff that’s gonna make that happen.”

Between now and Saturday, you can also take part in the Sparks of Giving online auction to benefit the Zoarview Foundation. There’s a link on the event’s Facebook page where you’ll also find a list of participating businesses and the causes they’re supporting.
