First Town Days Festival begins 5-day run today

| June 30, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 30, 2023)  – The First Town Days Festival gets underway for its 46th edition out of Tuscora Park today.

Festival Committee President Joe Croft says the midway and craft vendors will begin operating at 4 p.m., which is also when opening ceremonies begin at the Al Maloney stage.

That’s where they’ll name this year’s queen, make the selection for the little princess contest, and present scholarships. The auction for this year’s souvenir plate featuring the park’s recently restored Ferris wheel is at 4:30 p.m.

“It’s a great fundraiser, great way to support First Town Days,” said Croft. “We ask anybody that loves the Ferris wheel, had anything to do with that project, come out, bid on those first five plates.”

The WJER Grand Parade then steps off at 6:30 p.m. and swings through downtown. Co-coordinator Stacy Patton has been expecting more than 50 units to be involved.

“The winners of all the categories – we do judge those entries – and they’ll be announced at the square during the parade,” Patton said.

The nightly musical entertainment for this evening features the group Brothers from 8 to 10 p.m.
