Fontana, Contini are Unofficial Winners, New Philadelphia Schools Fail Again in Primary
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 5, 2026) — With all 81 precincts reporting, the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections has released complete unofficial results for the May 5, 2026 primary election. Totals include Election Day, early in-person, and absentee ballots. Results will be finalized after certification by the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections.
In the Democratic primary for Ohio House District 51, Amanda Fontana is the unofficial winner with 3,205 votes to Angie Hall’s 1,170.
In the Republican primary for county auditor, Lisa Contini came out on top with 4,171 votes, ahead of Brett Hillyer’s 3,474.
Among local issues, the New Philadelphia School District’s income tax (Issue 1) for new school buildings failed, 2,087 to 3,303. The Dover Public Library’s levy renewal (Issue 2) passed, 1,894 to 670. Newcomerstown’s income tax proposal (Issue 6) was approved, 217 to 147, while Tuscarawas Village’s additional levy (Issue 7) was narrowly defeated, 76 to 88.
All results remain unofficial pending certification.
