Food demonstration highlights Farmers Market Juneteenth celebration
DOVER – The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market will celebrate Juneteenth in the most delicious way possible on Wednesday.
Rev. Rodney Sutton will lead a cooking demonstration and have free samples of some of the food that has a historical significance to the holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

“Juneteenth foods are part of the freedom that was celebrated,” he said. “The red foods represents not only the blood that was spilled but also strength and redemption of the African-American people.”
He will be preparing some homemade macaroni and cheese with smoked brisket and his special barbecue sauce, plus a demonstration on fried green tomatoes and how to cut and clean collard greens.
There also will be music and an interactive presentation with former Tuscarawas County NAACP President Bill Walker.
The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds in Dover. Cooking demonstrations and live music typically start around 5. The Juneteenth holiday is Friday.
