Former Uhrichsville mayor indicted for theft in office, other counts

| July 16, 2025

Mark Haney

UHRICHSVILLE – Former Mayor Mark Haney has been indicted on four criminal counts after being accused of using city credit cards on personal purchases and improperly receiving reimbursements for meals, mileage and other purchases, according to the state auditor’s office.

The charges include felony theft in office, two felony counts of tampering with records, and a misdemeanor count of receiving unlawful compensation. An arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 13 in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court.

In a press release, the state auditor’s office says it began an investigation in January 2024 after receiving a complaint “alleging Haney improperly received reimbursements for meals, mileage, and other purchases and that he had used city credit cards on personal purchases.”

Haney served one term as Uhrichsville’s mayor. He was defeated in the 2023 democratic primary by current mayor Jim Zucal.

Court records suggest the theft in office count is a fourth-degree felony. That would indicate the value of the property or services stolen is between $1,000 and $7,500.

Haney did not immediately return a message.
