Forum to lay out options for policing in Newcomerstown

| February 10, 2025

NEWCOMERSTOWN (WJER) (Feb. 10, 2025) – There’s a community meeting on Tuesday evening to share the village’s options for maintaining police protection.

Mayor Pat Cadle encourages anyone concerned about recent staffing challenges within the police department to attend the 7 pm forum at the Administrative Building on South College Street.

“It’s not for complaining. If you’re coming to complain, don’t because it’s not going to do any good. It’s not going to change anything. We’re looking at what we need to do to make sure we have a police force that’s available for the community.”

The meeting has been generating a lot of interest on social media, although how many people will actually show up is anyone’s guess.

“We’ll just have to wait and see. It’s one of those things that you can see a lot of that and then hardly anybody shows up, and then sometimes when you don’t expect a big crowd you get more than you ever dreamed of. So we’re gonna contact the owner of the civic center to see if we would need to move the meeting if we can move it there.”

This follows the resignations of Police Chief Opha Lawson and another Newcomerstown officer.
