GNADENHUTTEN (WJER) (May 26, 2022) – Indian Valley Superintendent Ira Wentworth is getting a statewide award for his leadership during the pandemic.

Wentworth is the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation’s latest Ohio Superintendent Outstanding Performance Award recipient. Board of Education President Francis Picchetti nominated Wentworth for the honor.

“Under his tenure, academics have been a focus in every area. He’s just done a fantastic job, and also through the COVID crisis when we needed true leadership, he was the leader so we just felt that he deserved this honor.”

Wentworth says the credit belongs to everyone involved in achieving the district’s mission of providing a personalized and rigorous standards-based learning experience for every student.

“That’s just not a saying that’s painted on a wall or on top of a meeting agenda. I mean, that really does guide our week, and I feel like as a group, as an organization, all of our arrows are pointing in the same direction and everybody’s working towards that same goal. So this award’s really just a culmination of all that work that’s been going on consistently over time for the last several years.

The foundation will present the award on June 28th during its yearly retreat. It comes with a $10,000 grant for the district that Wentworth plans to use to train its kindergarten through second-grade teachers on the Orton-Gillingham method of educating students with dyslexia or dyslexic tendencies.
