NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan. 27, 2025) – The Friends of the Homeless organization is seeking additional donations and pledges for Jack’s House of Hope.

Campaign Co-Chair Matt Ritzert says they’ve raised about $3.4-million so far toward the more than $5-million addition to the existing homeless shelter in downtown New Philadelphia.

“We’re really excited about it but it’s a big project. Construction has just gotten underway with some digging of footers and pouring of a little bit of concrete. It’ll take about a year to get the project built.”

Once complete, the 20,000-square-foot facility will be able to house 14 men, 13 women, and four families at any given time.

“It’ll have a chapel. It’ll have a larger dining room, a larger pantry. It will have more community space. It will have more space to offer services like occupational therapy and counseling and places for the staff to meet with guests.”
