Garage and contents destroyed in Tuesday night blaze in Dover
DOVER (WJER) (Jan. 18, 2023) – Dover firefighters say a detached garage and its contents are a total loss following a blaze that broke out Tuesday night.
The approximately 20×30 ft. garage was behind a home in the 800 block of South Emerson Ave. near Boulevard Lanes.
Captain Mike Mossor says a neighbor discovered the fire and alerted the owner shortly before 10:30 p.m.
“We had heavy smoke and you could see an orange glow in the building when he got there,” said Mossor. “ The neighborhood was really, really smoky. It took a minute or so to figure out what was going on back there.”
Mossor says firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby vehicles and structures.
The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined.
Mossor says the owner had been working on a car that was also destroyed in the garage, along with more than $25,000 worth of tools.
He says the total damage estimate could approach $75,000.
Firefighters were on the scene until just after midnight this morning.
