NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Dec. 11, 2024) – We’re learning more about the robbery incident at the Dover Speedway gas station on South Wooster Avenue Monday Evening which left the clerk injured.

The Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office has now filed a five-count criminal complaint against 39-year-old John A. McNutt of Dover.

Those include one count of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and two counts of aggravated robbery – all felony charges.

The complaint filed in New Philadelphia Municipal Court claims that McNutt, while attempting to commit a theft, used a hammer to cause physical harm to the victim.

Dover Police previously said the clerk suffered head injuries.  She was treated and released at a local medical facility.

McNutt appeared by video for arraignment on the charges in court this morning from the Tuscarawas County Jail, where has been since early Tuesday.  Bail was set at $500,000.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for next Wednesday.
