MINERVA – The Dover girls soccer team defeated Beaver Local 7-0 in a Division II district semifinal match Tuesday. Scoring for the Crimson Tornadoes were: Belen Bravo-Angel, Emilyn Feller (2), Bridget McCrate (2), Ansley Bollon, and Cashlyn Harmon. Dover next plays John Glenn for a District Championship at 5 p.m. Thursday in Coshocton.

Dover Head Coach James Kline:

Last night, the #3 seed Dover Tornadoes took on the Beaver Local Beavers ranked #6 in the District Semi-Finals.

What a beautiful night to have a soccer game in late October. Not sure if it was the weather or the girls were super focused, but we came out with a hunger and focus that allowed us to control the game quickly. Our goal before the game was to try and find a goal in the first fifteen minutes and we met our goal. Five minutes into the first half we had a few chances that were deflected off Beaver defenders when Miley Patton laid a ball off to Belen Bravo-Angel who was on top of the eighteen where she ripped a shot that found it’s way through their defenders and past the keeper for our first goal. After that, it seemed that our intensity dropped a little, but we continued to dominate and control the possession of the game. Then, ten minutes later, Ansley Bollon played a through ball to Emilyn Feller who took a couple touches forward and beat the keeper to her front post with a nice shot. After that, the goals started to snowball. With fifteen minutes left in the first half, Miley Patton won a ball and played it to Bridget McCrate who was running through and took a touch to get past their defense and beat the keeper with a hard shot. Then, seven minutes after that, Emilyn Feller scored when a shot off a cross was saved out to her. Lastly, two minutes later, with six minutes and forty-nine seconds left in the half Bridget McCrate beat a defender and hit a well placed ball to the back post and found the side netting.

Going into half up 5-0, the focus changed to getting through the game healthy and ready to play  Thursday. We had our chances early in the half to score some more goals and possibly end the game, but the  Beaver Local goalkeeper did a good job of keeping our shots out of the net. However, we were able to find a couple more goals when Ansley Bollon followed a deflected  shot and was able to settle the ball before hitting a well placed shot past the keeper. Then, with thirty-four seconds left in the game Cashlyn Harmon was able to get on the board by settling a goal kick and beating the keeper for our seventh and final goal of the game. It was another game where we were able to get everyone on the field, which again is a great learning experience and huge for our development as a team.

Now, it’s off to Coshocton tomorrow to take on #2 ranked John Glenn for the District Final at 5:00 PM.
