On Saturday, the Dover Tornadoes traveled to take on the Tri-Valley Scotties. It had been a long week for the Tornadoes with games on Monday and Wednesday, but we knew this was a big game for district seeding. On top of that, we knew we had some other distractions that we had to play through. Due to all of that, Thursday and Friday we talked a lot about finding a way to win, not finding an excuse for losing.

Well, this game could be summarized by saying the team found a way to win. In the first half, we were able to possess the ball and create some chances, but the Scotties’ defense and goalkeeper did a great job of keeping us out of the goal until Bella Zobel found a goal for us off pure hustle in the 24th minute of the game. I don’t know what it is, but Bella has a way of finding a goal when she gets on the field. A lot of it is her being in the right place at the right time, but a lot of it is due to her workrate. We went into half up 1-0.

However, we came out flat in the second half and didn’t hold our lead long when the Scottie’s found a goal five minutes into the half off a rebound save.

Like many times before though, we continued to battle and were somehow able to find a go ahead goal with 10 seconds remaining in the half. Kenzie Wright played a nice ball to Emilyn Feller and just like Wednesday night, she found a way to put the ball in the back of the net to put us up 2-1.

Some of the young players Abby Jones, Kenzie Wright, Emilyn Feller, Elizabeth Lane, and Belen Bravo-Angel played huge roles in Saturday’s game. We also had some really gutsy performances from some of the other players: Alyssa Feller, Liv Noretto, and Ava Zobel, who found a way to keep grinding through being banged up or not feeling well. Overall, everyone on the team played their roles very well and we had some huge minutes from some of our reserve players, as well.

We have two more tough matchups this week when we travel to West Holmes on Tuesday and Weir (WV) on Thursday.
