| July 2, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 2, 2026) – Tuscarawas County officials have released the name of the young victim killed in Tuesday’s side-by-side UTV crash near Gnadenhutten.

The county coroner’s office says 14-year-old Kya Barger of Gnadenhutten died after a utility vehicle overturned on Longbranch Road SE in Clay Township.

The coroner’s office says it was notified by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office at about 1:21 Tuesday afternoon that a teenage girl had been fatally injured and another teenager injured in the crash. No updates have been provided on that other teen, who was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
