Zachary Gill (Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office)

NEW PHILADELPHIA – A New Philadelphia man has been indicted on attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting his girlfriend last month.

Zachary Gill, 25, faces two counts of attempted murder – both first degree felonies, two counts of felonious assault and another felony weapons charge. Gill was not allowed to have a firearm because of robbery and battery offenses committed in Florida when he was 13 years old, according to the indictment.

New Philadelphia Police say Gill shot his girlfriend in the hip area during an argument on May 22nd. She did not report the shooting until four days later.

New Philadelphia Police called in multiple agencies to arrest Gill on May 29th at a Karen Drive home where he surrendered peacefully.

Gill remains in the Tuscarawas County Jail on a $500,000 bond with an arraignment hearing expected this week.
