Halloween-themed Art on the Alley this Sunday

| October 13, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 13, 2023) – Art on the Alley returns Sunday with a festive twist.

The Tuscarawas Arts Partnership is hosting the event that takes place from 11 to 4 along the alleys downtown. Social media coordinator Khloe Ayres was expecting close to 120 vendors with artwork and other handmade items to sell who will also be passing out treats to kids who show up in their Halloween costumes.

“We’re focusing on ‘Spook the Town’ so we’re doing trick-or-treating and a costume contest that will be called the ‘Mad Bros Masquerade’ with the Tuscarawas County Public Library.”

Art on the Alley takes place twice a year – in May and October. Arts Partnership Director Executive Director Wilma Mullet says it’s grown exponentially since the first one in 2018 that had around 30 vendors and a couple of food trucks set up along one block of Ashwood Lane.

“It wouldn’t be where it’s at without the support of our sponsors for helping us make sure that we have entertainment and just advertising and bringing people downtown. And, of course, you couldn’t have an art festival without the artists, so our artists are really important being a part of it.”

Sunday’s Art on the Alley kids’ costume contest is at 2 pm on the front lawn of the library with awards for the spookiest, silliest, and most creative costumes in four age categories.
