Heating oil mishap blamed as cause of house fire

| October 17, 2024

MILL TWP.  (WJER) (Oct. 17, 2024) – Dennison firefighters say a crew had to flatten a vacant house after it went up in flames Wednesday.

Chief Dave McConnell says the fire in the 4600 block of Gatchell Rd SE was reported just before noon. No one has lived there for about a year.

McConnell says he was told by the owner – who lives next door – that the fire broke out when she stopped by the home to light the fuel oil furnace, apparently to protect the water lines from the cold.  There were no injuries.

McConnell says the home was valued at about $15,000.

Firefighters from Uhrichsville, Warwick and Rush townships, and Arrowhead Joint Fire District assisted.  The final ones left the scene around 3:30 p.m.
