Helpers needed to prepare for communitywide scarf distribution

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 19, 2023) – You don’t have to knit to contribute to the Scarf Project’s next distribution.

Founder Toni Kaltenbaugh needs around a dozen helpers on Saturday morning to prepare the scarves that people have donated over the last year for pickup day on November 10th.

“There will be probably I’m guessing at least 2,000 scarves, hats, gloves, mittens, headbands, all laid out all over tables, and what we’re gonna do is match the scarves with hats and gloves so we can put them out as sets, and it takes a lot of people to do that.

Kaltenbaugh accepts new and handmade scarves at her New Philadelphia home year-round but any Items donated after this past Tuesday will go toward the 2024 distribution. She’s also seeking copy paper to print flyers and gas cards for the folks who will be monitoring the pickup locations.

“Because they drive a long way sometimes to get to the sites that they’re monitoring, and I think it would be nice if we could just help them out a little bit.”

For more information or to volunteer for Saturday, call or text Kaltenbaugh at 330-432-1930.
