High schools kick off spirit week traditions

TUSCARAWAS CO. (WJER) (Oct. 21, 2024) – Area students are showing their school pride through creative costumes ahead of their rivalry football games Friday.
New Philadelphia high schoolers are wearing pajamas today for ‘Keep Dreaming Dover’ day to start off spirit week. Principal Ryan Range says other themes include ‘Shine-Out Dover’ with neon clothes tomorrow and ‘Scare Dover’ with Halloween costumes Wednesday.
“I get to enjoy the week all over again,” said Range, a New Philadelphia High School Graduate. “It’s really fun to see high school just get really involved and participate in all the fun activities, and we just want to make it a special week, he said.”
Dover High School Principal Brooke Grafe says their spirit week is centering around the theme of ‘Ultimate Showdown,’ with dress up days such as ‘Pilates Pro vs. Gym Bro’ – with kids wearing workout gear – and ‘Rock Stars vs. Pop Stars.’
“Fall’s always a busy time, but there’s nothing that culminates it like Dover-Phila week,” said Grafe. “Since Dover-Phila is the ultimate showdown every year, what better way to frame our dress-up week.”
Both schools are hosting spaghetti dinners and community pep rallies the day before Friday’s football game at Quaker Stadium.
