Highway Patrol investigating crash that killed Conotton Valley student
BOWERSTON – The Conotton Valley Union School District is coping with the loss of a student to a car crash in the same area where a student was killed in a 2022 accident.
The New Philadelphia Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating Tuesday’s crash that claimed the life of a 16-year-old Carrollton teen. A press release says the teen was a passenger in a 2007 Pontiac Torrent that went off the road, struck a ditch, went airborne and hit a creek embankment. The 18-year-old driver from Bowerston was seriously injured and transported to Mercy Hospital. The Highway Patrol says neither was wearing a seatbelt.
Officials says impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and the road was dry at the time. The State Highway Patrol says poor tires on the car may have been a contributing factor as the vehicle rounded a curve.
Highway Patrol officials said Tuesday’s crash scene is within view of the site of a February 2022 single-vehicle crash on state Route 212 that claimed the life of a Conotton Valley High School senior.
A communication from Conotton Valley Union Local Schools identifies the teens in Tuesday’s crash as Conotton Valley students. It says parents can contact the administration office as counselors are available to assist children who need emotional or mental health support.
A GoFundMe account has been established for the family of the 16-year-old.
