Highway Patrol Testing Event Set for Friday in New Philadelphia
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 10, 2026) – The State Highway Patrol is giving prospective troopers a chance to ask questions and take the first steps toward attending the training academy. The Patrol is holding regional testing Friday at Kent State Tuscarawas.
Post Commander Lt. Bryan Sponaugle says anyone interested in employment can come to the campus beginning at 9 a.m. to meet troopers and learn more about a career serving Ohio’s communities and roadways.
Applicants who meet the basic requirements — age 20 to 39, U.S. citizen, high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver license — can complete an application and take the written test on site. Those who pass can immediately move on to the physical fitness assessment.
Sponaugle says the post can also help candidates improve if they fall short.
After Friday’s testing, candidates would still need to complete a background check, polygraph, medical exam and drug screening. Successful applicants are then placed on an eligibility roster, attend a signing day at their district headquarters, and complete a ride‑along before entering the academy.
