HRN Firefighter Field Day returns to fairgrounds this weekend
DOVER (WJER) (June 10, 2022) – Community members are getting a chance to cheer on their favorite firefighter or department as they compete in challenges to raise money for charity.
HRN Construction’s Third Firefighter Field Day is happening at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds tomorrow/today. Organizer Jeff Mizer of Mizer Marketing says firefighters will be there for six hours, from 9 to 3 pm, participating in skills challenges and exhibitions.
“They do what they call a firefighter combat challenge. They do a tire flip. They do a water barrel battle that’s a lot of fun to watch. That’s two teams of four going at it with their fire hoses and equipment, battling over a barrel and pushing it to the end.”
He says it’ll also have food trucks and an area kids challenge area.
“We have fire gear for them to wear and they can mimic their heroes in a fun little challenge for the kids’ area.”
Firefighters competing in tomorrow’s HRN Firefighter Field Day pay an entry fee that will be donated to Akron Children’s Hospital to support its summer camp for fire-injured children. Spectators get in for free. Tune into WJER from 9 to noon as Ryan Pastircak broadcasts live from the event.
