NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 17, 2024) – It’s not too late to help those impacted by recent hurricanes.

The New Philadelphia Municipal Court’s supply drive for the Asheville community resumes Friday from 8 am until 6 pm out of the old fire station. Probation Officer Mindy Craig says they didn’t plan to take clothing at first but things have changed.

“Obviously, the weather has dropped in temperatures so we have been accepting [new and] gently used coats, hoodies, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, socks.”

Other needed items include cleaning supplies, baby formula and diapers, toilet paper, and hygiene products. Craig is hoping for even more support than the first drop-off day a week ago when they ended up with an entire pallet of supplies and seven that were halfway full.

“I would just love nothing more than for us to have to get more trucks and help these people more than we could ever imagine.”

New Philadelphia police detectives, work program participants, and others have been helping out with the collection. Craig says retired Dover policeman turned probation officer Bill Nedrow will be leaving early Saturday to drive the supplies to their destination.
