I-77 pursuit suspect appears in court

| November 18, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 18, 2025) – A Stark County man was set to be arraigned in New Philadelphia Municipal Court Monday in connection to a pursuit on I-77 south Friday night.

60-year-old Scott Herzog of Louisville is in the Tuscarawas County Jail for failure to comply and having weapons under disability.

State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia post Sgt. Jennifer Makris says a trooper initially tried to stop Herzog’s pickup truck near Bolivar for a marked lanes violation. The pursuit – which stayed close to the speed limit – ended about 10 minutes later when stop sticks deflated the truck’s four tires near the Schneiders Crossing exit at Dover.

Makris says Herzog informed troopers after the stop that he had a firearm in his truck, which was illegal due to a prior conviction. He was taken into custody without incident.

Herzog next has a preliminary hearing in court Wednesday.
