Indictments issued for New Phila assault suspects

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 7, 2024) – Three of the suspects in the brutal attack on a city man at his home are now facing formal charges.
The grand jury has handed down felony indictments against Christopher Beatty, 36, of New Philadelphia; Jared Soltero, 36, of Minerva; and Todd Riordan, 38, of Massillon. All are charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault for the August 20th attack on Fair Avenue that sent the victim to the hospital.
New Philadelphia Police Captain Ty Norris described the incident as alcohol-related.
“This is grown people under the influence of alcohol making very, very poor choices.”
The three suspects worked for the same energy services company. They were reportedly drinking together at a local establishment before the attack that left the victim with multiple abrasions, facial fractures, and a partially detached ear. A fourth man was arrested with the other three and had his case bound over from New Philadelphia Municipal Court but hasn’t been indicted on formal charges.
