Infrastructure work continues around ProVia’s new Dover facility
DOVER – The city is continuing infrastructure work on the north side to accommodate a new manufacturing facility even with a change in ownership.
ProVia will eventually make windows there after buying the under-construction building from the Schaeffler Group earlier this year. Schaeffler’s plans to manufacture electric vehicle components, first announced in 2024, stalled when the EV industry cooled down.
Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the $4.5 million dollars the city has invested in infrastructure work, funded mainly by state grants, is protected in the switch from Schaeffler to ProVia. He says the incentive agreements are tied to the land, so Dover will continue to receive its reimbursements for infrastructure costs.
The roadwork associated with the project has gone over budget by about $90,000 because of underground utility relocation. That work will continue after Council’s approval this week. However, Gunnoe says other projects for stormwater, electricity and traffic lights were “significantly” under budget by about $500,000 dollars.
ProVia officials have said they expect to finish the building next year.
