Investigation continues into pedestrian fatality in Dover
DOVER – The State Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal van vs. pedestrian crash that happened on North Wooster Avenue in Dover Monday just after 6 p.m.
Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says it appears the victim, 69-year-old Kathy Fruchey of Dover, was in the northbound lane when she was struck by a van heading north on Wooster. Her car was parked along the other side of the street.
“We will submit it to the prosecutor, but at this time, [it appears] the pedestrian crossed the road in an area where it’s not well lit. There’s no crosswalk there. There’s no crosswalk signs, and she was wearing all dark clothing.”
Armstrong said investigators had not found any other contributing factors in the crash except for darkness.
Armstrong says there were not any cameras pointed at the location of the accident.
Investigators continue to interview witnesses.
Armstrong says the 80-year-old man driving the van had just crossed the Wooster Avenue bridge over the Tuscarawas River. The crash happened at the intersection of Wooster Avenue and Karle Avenue.
