Coalition selects book by local educator for communitywide reading project

| September 11, 2023
The Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition has selected "View from the Hot Seat" by local educator Michael Gunther as the feature of this year's One Book One Community reading project.

DOVER (WJER) (Sept. 11, 2023) – A founding member of the Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition is the featured author for this year’s One Book Community reading project.

Chairperson Rachael Bowers says this year’s selection is “Views from the Hotseat,” a memoir by local educator Mike Gunther about his experiences living and working in Tuscarawas County.

“He is just such a wonderful person and a staple in the community. A lot of people know who he is and have a high regard for him so it just speaks volumes that we could bring him full circle back to know he’s the feature of One Book One Community and what it’s grown to be.”

Book discussions and activities will be taking place at area schools and libraries over the next two months leading up to the project’s culminating event – an Evening with Gunther at Kent Tusc Founders Hall on November 6th.

“He will be presenting passages about the book and speaking about the writing process and just kind of sharing with the audience his kind of motivation to what led him to become a published writer.”

The Tuscarawas County Writers Coalition is hosting an essay contest based around Gunther’s book and will be awarding cash prizes to the top three adult and student contributors.
