Local FOP leader recognized for decades of dedication

DOVER – The safety director for the city of Dover and Buckeye Career Center is the recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police.
Bob Everett was president of the local FOP Tuscora Lodge Number 4 for close to 30 years. Ohio FOP President Jay McDonald says Everett is worthy of the Steve Young Award, named after the former Ohio and National FOP President who passed away in 2003.
“Bob was awarded this prestigious award because of almost 40 years of leadership to his local FOP and the FOP of Ohio,” McDonald said. “He has served as the President of Tuscora Lodge 4 for decades and continues to serve as a member of the executive board to this day. Bob is well known throughout Ohio as someone is who is passionate about standing up for those who protect and serve our communities and we are so grateful for his leadership in the FOP.”
McDonald says the Steve Young Award is given to “a very select few who have demonstrated a long commitment to the men and women in law enforcement.”
Everett says the award’s namesake – Steve Young – was a friend and hero.
“Steve Young to me was THE representative of law enforcement in the FOP. Steve was great, and to receive an award in his name, I’m just so thankful. I’m humbled. It’s something I never would have expected ever.
“I was completely shocked. I’ve sat through – I couldn’t even tell you how many conferences since the origin of that award. I’ve seen some great leaders out of the big cities – Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland… get that award.
“Never in a million years would I have even dreamt I was in line for something like this.”
