Local midterm voting numbers comparable to past presidential elections
NEW PHILADELPHIA – The director of the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections says early voting numbers for this mid-term election are comparable to past presidential elections.
Director Dave Johnson on Monday afternoon said the Board has received 11,732 early ballots so far. That includes mail-in ballots and a steady stream of in-person voters at the Board of Elections. Johnson says about 7,000 in-person early voters this year compares to around 9,000 during a typical presidential election.
Sunday was the last day for early in-person voting. Johnson says there was a line forming at noon about an hour before the office opened.
Johnson urges today’s voters to be patient and thoughtful. He reminds them not to wear anything political to the polls, have their ID handy, and treat poll workers with respect.
Polls are open Tuesday between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. You can’t vote at the Board of Elections office.
