Man accused of running away with 15-year-old gets local jail time, probation

NEW PHILADELPHIA – A 24-year-old man accused of meeting a 15-year-old New Philadelphia girl online and taking her to Wisconsin will not spend time in prison.
Judge Ryan Styer last week sentenced Jordan Romine to five years of probation and 180 days of local jail time after the defendant pleaded guilty to low-level felony counts of endangering children and interference with custody.
Romine had already spent 113 days in jail, so he has about two more months remaining on his sentence.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s officials said Romine was a married father from Dayton who met the girl online, lied about his age and left with her in the middle of the night on April 26. Law enforcement used license plate reading cameras to find the pair in Wisconsin.
Judge Styer in his judgement entry noted that he was restricted from sending Romine to prison under Ohio laws for low level, non-violent offenses. The judge fined him $1,000, ordered 250 hours of community service and forbade Romine from having any contact with the girl or her family.
