Manhunt prompts precautionary lockdown at Newcomerstown schools

| March 3, 2022

NEWCOMERSTOWN (WJER) (March 3, 2022) – The Newcomerstown school district went on a brief lockdown this afternoon.

Superintendent Jason Peoples says it was in response to a situation near the schools that the police department brought to their attention between 1:40 and 1:45.

“So that caused us to go into a lockdown. It was probably 10 minutes at most before Newcomerstown police apprehended the suspects that they were looking for, but there was no direct threat to any students or staff’s safety.”

No additional details were immediately available. However, a Newcomerstown Police dispatcher told WJER that Chief Gary Holland is planning to issue a press release about the incident.
