Massillon man ID’d as victim of fatal fire in Dover Twp.

| November 4, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 4, 2025) – The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s office this morning released the name of the person whose remains were found in a motor home fire in Dover Township on Friday.

The individual has been identified as 38-year-old Samuel Crawford of Massillon.

The remains were taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. The cause and manner of death are still pending.

Adam Fisher with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office says foul play is not suspected in the fire that was reported at 11:38 a.m. on Von Kaenel Drive.

After it was extinguished, investigators found the remains of a human and a canine inside the destroyed motor home that was parked next to a house.

Fisher says the investigation continues, but a portable heating device appears to be the cause.
