Monday fire damages school-turned-residence in Roswell

| June 18, 2024

ROSWELL (June 18, 2024) – Sherrodsville firefighters say nobody was injured in a fire at a former school building that was converted into a residence on Main St. SE Monday night.

Fire Chief Buddy Miller says the 7:30 p.m. fire was mainly contained to the kitchen and the room above it, though firefighters had to knock out other windows to ventilate the building.

He credits the mutual aid response from New Philadelphia, Fairfield Township, Uhrichsville, and Dover for saving the structure.

“It was an old building, and it could have turned a lot worse than what it did,” Miller said.

Miller says it took about 45 minutes to have the fire out, but the last crews didn’t leave the scene until about 10 p.m.

“We just had to clear all the smoke out of the building, make sure everything was good and no hot spots,” he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
