MWCD cuts ribbon on new Quarry Trail at Clendening Lake Dam
TIPPECANOE (WTUZ) (April 29, 2026) – The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is celebrating a milestone in its long-range trail effort—unveiling the first completed project from a 20-year master plan aimed at expanding hiking and biking opportunities.
The new Quarry Trail at Clendening Dam Park measures 1.3 miles, with a natural surface.
Trails Coordinator Dylan Sayer says the opening stretch highlights the Halderman Stone Quarry—once a major Tippecanoe-area business before it was decommissioned in 1906.
Sayer says the path was hand-built, highlighting native wildflowers and scenic quarry views.
The route takes visitors through the quarry, into a wooded stretch, and then loops back.
MWCD Chief of Recreation Pete Novotny says projects like this are designed to help connect people with the outdoors—and with each other—while boosting local tourism and revenue.
The project is a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, since the parking lot and walk to the Quarry Trailhead cross its property. The MWCD reminds visitors to stay on the marked path and leave plants undisturbed. The Quarry Trail is now open at Clendening Dam Park.
