MWCD Says to Make Boating Safety a Priority

| July 6, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WTUZ) (July 6, 2026) – The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is reminding boaters to put safety first as summer recreation continues across the region.

MWCD Communications Manager Adria Bergeron says operators should know how to safely handle their vessel, understand personal flotation device requirements, complete a safety check before heading out, and follow all no-wake zone regulations.

Officials also stress that boat operators should avoid alcohol and cannabis use. Alcohol remains the leading contributing factor in fatal boating accidents.

Bergeron adds that passengers should remain seated while a boat is underway.
