MWCD Unveils New Cottage Site Development at Atwood Lake

| June 9, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 9, 2026) – A new lakefront development is coming to Atwood Lake for the first time in more than 50 years.

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is creating a cottage community called Windward Shores on the lake’s south side. Eighteen lots will be sold through a public auction set for July 11th at the Atwood Yacht Club.

Spokeswoman Adria Bergeron says winning bidders will lease the land from the district, while owning the cottages they build.

She says an informational meeting is scheduled for June 18th at the yacht club for potential buyers.

The development will sit in a currently wooded area off State Route 542, east of the yacht club, with access to private docks, beach areas, and walking paths.

Bergeron says shoreline work must be completed before roads and infrastructure are installed.

Construction on cottages could begin as early as March of 2027.
