National Champion Ohio State quarterback visiting Dover Library

| February 11, 2022

DOVER (WJER) (February 11, 2022) – The quarterback of the 1968 undefeated national champion Ohio State Buckeyes will be at the Dover Library Saturday out of respect for the Old Man.

Rex Kern is the quarterback turned author. The Old Man is his coach – the legendary Woody Hayes. Kern says he will meet guests and sell and sign copies of his new book – “The Road to the Horseshoe and Beyond” February at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Ohio State Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County and the Tuscarawas County Sports Hall of Fame, where Woody Hayes is a member of the inaugural class. Hayes played football at Newcomerstown and coached at New Philadelphia before leading the Buckeyes to five national titles.

Hall of Fame President Tom Farbizo says Kern’s book is full of Woody Hayes stories.

“In fact, he made the comment, ‘When I saw Dover-New Philadelphia, I have to come there out of respect for the Old Man’ – that’s what we used to call Woody – ‘Out of respect for the Old Man, I have to do my job,’” Farbizo said.

Dover library Director Jim Gill says Kern writes about how his football journey from small-town Ohio helped him in life.

Register for the Rex Kern program by calling the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123 or visiting the library’s website at doverlibrary.org.
