STRASBURG (WJER) (Dec. 27, 2024) – The Strasburg Fire Department got an early Christmas gift.

Chief Jason Ely says their new pumper-tanker arrived at the station on December 12th.

“Everybody’s getting some driver training done on it, and then mid-January the truck will go out to Sensible Products to get all of the tools mounted on it. Our hope is by March 1st to have the truck in service.”

This will replace the department’s 1998 tanker and an engine around the same age.

“It’s a 2,000-gallon pumper tanker, so it’s gonna have the capabilities of both. Our current tanker is a 2,000-gallon, so this truck is gonna have the same amount of water on it but it’ll also have a pump.”

The village in 2022 sold another aging fire engine for $35,000. That money and $100,000 from ProVia went toward the down payment on the more than $800,000 pumper tanker.
