DOVER (WJER) (Sept. 13, 2024) – Six young ladies are in the running to become Tuscarawas County’s 2024 Junior Fair Queen.

It’s between Maggie Hamilton, Jenna Horn, Morgan Miller, Kylee Mutti, Norah Randolph, and Celeste Rummel. Royalty Contest Chair Wendy Vogel says candidates complete an application listing their 4-H accomplishments and submit a one-page essay explaining why they should be selected.

“And then they have an interview process. They’ll come and interview in front of a panel of three judges. They will pick through everything, ask lots of fun questions and get to know them and then decide from there.”

2023 Fair Queen Brianna Burdette will crown her replacement during a ceremony at the fairgrounds on Sunday evening. There’s also a two-way contest for king between Drew Long and Jacob Wisselgren. Vogel knows the outcome already but is keeping it under wraps.

“I work quite a bit with a lot of these kids, with the Junior Fair Board, so I have to try to kind of avoid them some and not talk to them much because I want to keep it on the down-low. I keep my distance from them and try not to make eye contact.”

This is the 30th recorded Junior Fair Royalty Contest in Tuscarawas County. Vogel says all past kings and queens were invited to attend Sunday’s event and will be recognized before they announced this year’s winners.
