New Phila approves tax break for proposed Chick-Fil-A

| December 13, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Dec. 13, 2024) – If all goes well, there will be a Chick-Fil-A on the west side of the city just over a year from now.

That’s what Mayor Joel Day said during Monday’s city council meeting after requesting approval of a previously discussed five-year, 50-percent tax abatement (for the proposed site on Bluebell Drive).

“Tonight I ask City Council members to adopt Ordinance 32-2024, which grants Chick-fil-A property tax abatement for construction of a new restaurant on Bluebell Drive Northwest.”

Chick-Fil-A Incorporated is considering a new location at what’s currently the Travelodge motel, investing 3.5-million dollars into the property and creating 33 new jobs.

“The company is currently going through the permitting process with the City Service Department and the East Central Ohio Building Authority (ECOBA). If all goes as planned, construction of the 85-seat restaurant will begin in August of 2025 and open in January of 2026.”

The city school district and Buckeye Career Center still need to approve the tax abatement on their end.
