New Phila Big Lots could remain open after all
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 6, 2025) – A Monday bankruptcy court filing is providing a glimmer of hope to local Big Lots employees, although the store manager says many have already taken other jobs.
The location on Bluebell Drive is among 200 nationwide that could be spared from closure as part of a deal between the liquidation firm handling Big Lots’ assets and the owner of the Roses Discount store chain: North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers. If approved by the court, the company will likely take over the New Philadelphia store and others on the list, which also includes the Big Lots on Whipple Avenue in Canton.
‘Going out of Business’ sales have been taking place since December at the more than 870 Big Lots locations nationwide after a previous deal fell through.
