New Phila Police hosting hurricane relief supply collection
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 8, 2024) – After helping pack a trailer full of donations for the hurricane relief efforts in one North Carolina community, New Philadelphia Police are now collecting items for another.
The police department is hosting a supply drive for the Bald Creek Relief operation out of Burnsville. Chief Tessa Pohovey says the suggestion came from a donor at last month’s Municipal Court Probation Department hurricane relief collection.
“He had recently moved to this area and said that he was a surveyor in Asheville. He provided a flier for another place that was accepting donations, and he kind of said that some of them weren’t getting all of the donations because of the roads being gone. This flier was a place he said was really working hard to collect and distribute donations.”
Needed items are listed on the New Philadelphia Police Department Facebook pages and can be dropped off at the old fire station on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm through November 23rd.
“I think it’s just helping our fellow Americans, honestly. Anybody could be in a disaster, and if we’re able to help we’re gonna help because if it was us we would have to rely on the kind hearts of other people.”
No monetary donations will be accepted at the collection. For that, you’ll have to visit baldcreekrelief.com. Items can also be purchased and shipped to the organization through its Amazon Wishlist.
