New Philadelphia cracking down on drivers who ignore crosswalks

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Police will be picking up enforcement of pedestrian laws in the downtown area.
Mayor Joel Day says some drivers aren’t obeying the rules, so he has asked Police Chief Tessa Pohovey to have officers spend more time policing downtown crosswalks and ticketing anyone who ignores the flashing lights when people are trying to cross the street.
He says community members have witnessed infractions and have seen some near misses downtown.
And the mayor isn’t letting walkers off the hook, either. He says there has also been an increase in jaywalking violations.
