New Philadelphia expands outdoor drinking hours downtown
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 29, 2025) – Drinking outside using marked cups in New Philadelphia’s downtown Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, will now be permitted at certain times seven days a week.
Council voted 4 to 2 Monday night to expand the hours of operation for DORA, which previously was just in use during special events.
The vote came after about 40 minutes of public comments, which were mostly in opposition.
Supporters have included those from the downtown business community.
Council Members Cheryl Ramos and Tom Simmelink voted no, while Michael Walker abstained.
