New Philadelphia Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Delayed-Report Shooting of Girlfriend
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 1, 2026) – Police are sharing more details into last week’s arrest of 25-year-old Zachary Gill in connection with the alleged shooting of his girlfriend.

Police Captain David Morris says the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on May 22nd during an argument between the couple, when Gill allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired, striking the victim.
Morris says police responded to the altercation but weren’t made fully aware of what had happened as there were no signs of a shooting at the time – and the two were only claiming there had been a car issue.
Morris says authorities eventually learned of the shooting four days later, when the victim sought medical treatment for what she claimed was an ankle injury, but hospital staff discovered a gunshot wound and alerted police.
Detectives obtained arrest and search warrants for Gill on multiple felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder and felonious assault. He surrendered peacefully Friday at a home on Karen Drive
Gill is currently being held in the Tuscarawas County Jail and is expected to be arraigned this week.
