New Philadelphia School Board begins planning for superintendent transition

| February 2, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 2, 2026) – The New Philadelphia School Board is preparing to determine how it will replace Superintendent Amy Wentworth, who is set to leave the district at the end of the school year to take the same position with Indian Valley Schools.

School Board President Jenn Schrock said Wentworth has been transparent about her plans throughout the process, giving the board valuable time to prepare for the transition. Wentworth will remain with the district through the end of July.

The board is expected to officially accept Wentworth’s resignation at its February 9 meeting. Following that action, members will begin discussions on the next steps in the search for a new superintendent.

Schrock said it is still too early to outline how the search will be conducted, noting that the board first needs to meet and determine its approach.

“We are not prepared to plan our next move until after our February 9 meeting,” Schrock said.

While the process has yet to be finalized, Schrock said it would be ideal to have a new superintendent selected before Wentworth’s departure. She emphasized that regardless of the timeline, the board plans to conduct a thorough search to find the right leader for New Philadelphia schools.

With the district planning another attempt at a ballot issue in May to fund new school buildings, Schrock said Wentworth’s pending departure should not distract from that effort.

“As I told Amy, I don’t think anyone should be held hostage by a ballot issue,” Schrock said. “We’ve been working hard in the community for the betterment of our schools for a long time, and we’ll continue to do so.”
