NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (March 26, 2026)  – The New Philadelphia School District has hired a new superintendent. The Board of Education on Wednesday quickly approved a 3-year contract for Dr. Carole Sutton to replace Amy Wentworth as New Philadelphia’s top administrator.

Sutton, a Salem, Ohio native, has been a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and most recently human resources director with the Stark County Educational Service Center over the course of a 20-plus year career in education.

School Board President Jennfier Schrock said about 15 candidates applied for the job. The Board interviewed four and picked Sutton for her experience and vision for the district. Sutton will start in July, two months after the district’s income tax issue appears on the May ballot.

Sutton’s three-year contract is for $151,000 a year. Wentworth is leaving the district to be the superintendent at Indian Valley where her husband, Ira Wentworth, is retiring from the position.
