New Philadelphia zoning code update proposal set for public discussion

| August 27, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 27, 2024) – City officials are ready to get the public involved again in the process of updating its zoning laws.

Mayor Joel Day says the city’s planning commission is recommending that city council adopt the new zoning code written by Wendy Moeller of Compass Point Planning near Cincinnati. The code was developed by using results from an online survey in 2023.

“It took just over a year to have meetings and do the necessary research to develop the new code, which I feel is essential to properly manage the city’s growth and future land uses,” Day told city council Monday night.

Day says residents can learn more at a public hearing that will be scheduled for September 9th where Moeller will present the new code and take questions. Council’s Zoning and Annexation Committee will then review the information and eventually recommend if the full council should vote on the new code.

Day says the zoning code was last updated in 1987.
