Mayor Joel Day Told City Council Monday night that Health Commissioner Vickie Ionno has informed the city health board that she plans to retire after nearly 14 years in the position.

He says that time included guiding the department through a threat from the Ohio legislature to close smaller health departments, the covid pandemic, and the achievement of national accreditation.

Day commended Ionno for leading a staff that he calls “the hardest working health department in Ohio.”

Ionno’s last day on the job will be May 31st.
