New mini golf course opens near Bolivar
LAWRENCE TWP (WJER) (June 12, 2023) – There’s a new miniature golf course in the area.
It’s outside of Bolivar behind the Wilkshire Event Center. Owner Bob Smith came up with the idea while brainstorming ways to use the rest of the property and teamed up with Pennsylvania-based Harris Golf to make it happen.
“They build them all over the world, and it was really enjoyable to watch them build the course. It’s just unlike any other kind of building you would ever see – a lot of concrete work, laying the boulders up for the waterfalls, and kind of making the holes challenging.”
Construction began last fall on the 18-hole course known as Wilkshire Mini Golf. Smith says it opened the week before last and has been a big hit with the families who’ve come out to play a round.
“People really seem to be enjoying it, and it was just something I felt the community would enjoy. It’s family-friendly. I mean, you could be 95 or 5 and play miniature golf, so we’ve seen a lot of grandparents bring kids out, and we sell Hershey’s ice cream there. It’s just a really neat place to go with your family.”
There are only two other putt-putt courses in Tuscarawas County – at Tuscora Park and Cabin Creek Golf near Sugarcreek.
“There’s a really nice one out by Baltic that a friend of mine has but up this way there really isn’t.”
Wilkshire Mini Golf is open 7 days a week. The hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 8 pm; Fridays and Saturdays from 11 to 9; and Sundays from noon to 8.
